The 2022 Annual General Meeting
Here are the meeting notes for the Annual General Meeting:
1. Starting in January, our dues will rise to $120 per month as a result of the continued marginal losses that Swordfighters incurs.
2. Starting in January we will try a new model for the regular practice. Sometime over break we will have a zoom meeting and plan the next 2-3 months of practices.
For each practice one of the senior students will act as Captain. It will be necessary for at least 2 other students to sign up to attend fo rthe class to go forward. Mike will continue to teach advanced and fundamentals practices but they will be scheduled in along with the other paractices.
Practices will be chosen from the following categories:
Fight nights focusing on internal sparring of various kinds.
Exchange practices between ourselves and other groups (occuring approximately once every 2 months
Drill Practice where we focus on one or a few specific techniques with the intention of improving skills (high number of repetitions)
Special focus practices: Womens Practice, a wrestling program for high school, childrens class.
Advanced practices focusing on skill development (ex. honing wrestling, dagger, or specific skills like grappling with weapons and so on)
Fundamentals Practice
3. Beginners Practice (NEW IDEAS HERE)
We will revisit beginners practice before January. We will schedule beginners practices at the same time that we schedule regular practices. We are considering alternative practice times and other approaches such as a longer workshop format as an introduction for beginners followed by private tutoring with senior members and or subsequent beginner classes.
The idea of having a checklist of skills and basics that each beginner would have to complete before they can join regular class occured to me this mroning. Such a checklist would include fitness level, understanding of protocols, introduction to fundamentals, and basic competency in longsword.
Beginners would be free to attend beginner classes, fundamentals classes, beginners workshops, sundays for swords and private tutoring
We can present beginners classes as smaller units....like longsword basics, basic one attack sparring, drills for longsword, basic grappling and dagger, fitness for swordfighters and fundamentals practices that everyone can attend. It would be up to beginners to complete their checklist to enter regular practices.
4. January 4 was chosen as our January start up time
